Tim Doyle x Yo Gabba Gabba!

The fine folks over at Toddland commissioned Nakatomi founder, Tim Doyle, to produce a print for Yo Gabba Gabba! Since Doyle was such a HUGE fan of the show (and if you’re not a fan of the show, something is very strange about you) he decided to produce an entire SERIES of character prints!

The Toddland crew is super-tight with the Gabba crew, and they pretty much told Doyle- “Draw whatever!” That kind of creative freedom with a property this big is pretty much unheard of, and shows a lot of faith in our talent over here!

This 18×24 7 color print is signed and numbered in an edition of 130- and a glow in the dark variant edition of ONLY 30!

Both prints will be available exclusively over at the Toddland/ Huckleberry booth at the San Diego Comic Con coming up REALLY SOON!

Quick video interview!

The fine folks over at GRIME KNOCKS caught Tim Doyle over at Gallery Guzu here in Austin last week, for a quickie interview! He talks about art, and Breaking Bad, and working out. He also calls Kristian Donaldson fat. Tim Doyle is a big jerk.

Make sure you subscribe to the Grime Knocks channel, and if you’re in Austin, head on over to Gallery Guzu for some Nu-Art madness!

Murphy…It’s You.

I was asked to participate in SpokeArt’s ongoing poster series produced in association with the Castro Theater in San Francisco.

This Friday, the Castro Theater is screening what is undoubtedly one of my favorite films, Robocop, and I jumped at the chance to do this print!  I saw Robocop when it was in theaters originally in 1987, when I was a mere 10 years old, and I’d say this film completely MELTED MY BRAIN.  It was funny, extremely violent, and a parody of American culture from top to bottom. It appealed to my then-emerging subversive side, and damn if stuff didn’t blow up REAL GOOD.

“In The Garage” art show artist’s copies available on Friday.

Tim Doyle was asked to participate in the Blank Space Ltd Gallery’s ‘In the Garage’ art show that debuted last month in Connecticut.

The theme was ‘nerd art’, and nothing says more nerdy than Magritte’s surrealist icons mixed with 8-bit glory! (At least to Doyle, it doesn’t…)

Blank Space released their copies of the prints last month, and now Nakatomi has the artist copies available, along with an exclusive variant in a super-small edition.

Above is pictured ‘That Damned Dog’ and below is ‘1000 points’. Both prints measure 16×20 and are signed and numbered by Doyle in editions of 75 each.

Oversized ‘Tears in the Rain’ Glow edition Timed Release onsale info-

Tears in the Rain Oversized Glow Edition

On Tuesday (4/24/12) at 3PM CST, Nakatomi will have a Timed Release of an OVER-SIZED edition of Tim Doyle’s ‘Tears In The Rain’ art print.

This print will measure 21″ x 40″ and each one will GLOW in the dark. It will be printed on heavyweight 130lb Cougar natural paper, and feature a silver metallic rain overlay.

Print will appear for sale at 3pm Central Standard Time on Tuesday HERE.

The last one we did in this series, the oversized White Dragon print (which you can see here) was limited to just 50 copies and was only available at the Flatstock poster convention in Austin. It was an instant sell out on the first day, and immediately people started flipping them on eBay for upwards of $600. While we don’t really have a problem with people re-selling our prints, we were a little bummed that people who loved the art and couldn’t afford the eBay price were shut out. SO- to help make it up to you guys, we’re doing this Timed Release print to make sure everyone who wants one can get one, provided they’re in front of their computer when it’s released. And, it glows in the dark for the same price as the non-glow over-sized White Dragon!

Texas VW Classic poster- now available

I was very happy to receive a cold-call from Tyler Chamberlain from the Texas VW Classic, asking me if I’d be interested in producing a poster for their annual event here in Central Texas. He had noticed a recurring theme in some of my art- a VW bus or other such fun vehicles snuck in where ever I could make it work. I have long, long loved the beauty and clean lines of the old-school VW’s (as well as Vespas and El Caminos!) and there was NO way I could turn him down!

The beauty and simplicity of these older vehicles is like a visual short-hand that signified fun and freedom.

The event was held this last weekend and the weather here in Texas couldn’t have been better! (which is good for selling posters…trust me.)

I’m now able to sell my artists copies on Nakatomi, and I hope you all enjoy them as much as I enjoyed drawing it!

This 18×24 5 color silk-screen print is signed and numbered in an edition of 230, with Nakatomi only having 30 for sale.

Pick them up HERE in the Tim Doyle Section of the Nakatomi store- prints are in hand and will ship immediately.

UNREAL ESTATE full show write-up and walk-through!

This article was originally written for SpokeArt so that they could divvy it up among several blogs that were generous enough to report on the show!

This write up will be given to attendees at the gallery at the opening TONIGHT, but for the rest of you who aren’t in San Francisco, here’s a sneak! These prints will all be on sale on the SpokeArt website, Spoke-Art.com THIS FRIDAY afternoon. Keep your eyes on the site!

——————————————

Last June, after the opening reception to the Quentin V. Coen show in San Fran, the founder of SpokeArt- Ken Harman, invited me to have a solo show at his gallery later that year. I was immediately flattered- and then the fear set in. If it’s just me, not only was I looking at months of work in secret- but the success or failure of the Gallery that month was up to my ability to create and be clever. I initially was going to do a very diverse show with a bunch of unconnected works, essentially throwing the visual parts of my brain up on the wall and hoping people liked what they saw. But after talking to Ken for a while, he seized on a couple of ideas I had and did what a good gallery owner should do- focus his artist. This is the show that came of that.

“Unreal Estate” is a collection of locations that many of us know and have been to on a weekly basis at times, but we can never actually visit. These places are in our memories- transmitted and entrenched there through a cathode-ray tube. Some of us have been going to these places for decades- some of these places were taken from us, way too soon.

I was asked to write about the pieces for use on various blogs and press. As much as I’d like the work to completely speak for itself, I do so enjoy commentary tracks, so here is mine.
