Tim-Doyle-Detective-Comics-31

Detective Comics #31 print by Tim Doyle NOW ON SALE!

Artist/ Nakatomi founder, Tim Doyle was commissioned to produce this dark interpretation of a classic Batman Cover for the fine folks over at French Paper Art Club!

From Doyle-

“I was the first artist to be a part of FPC’s Batman print series, and was totally excited to be back on for a new print- this time, the assignment was doing my own version of an existing cover. FPC had access to the almost complete back catalog of classic covers to do re-interpretations of, and the minute they asked me I knew EXACTLY the one I wanted to do. Detective #31 has a LONG history of fantastic artists doing reinterpretations of, and I wanted to take my own spin on it. The original line-art for this piece was actually a watercolor painting I had done, and adapted for screenprinting- the same technique I used for the sold-out Batman/GCPD print I had done for them last year. I wanted to use the same BRIGHT colors from the original cover, but find a way to make it much darker in tone. As always, super-big thanks to French Paper Art Club for the great gig!”

This hand-printed silkscreen art print measures 18×24, and is signed and numbered by the artist.

CHANGE INTO A TRUCK 10th Edition- all Metallic Ink!

CHANGE INTO A TRUCK 10th Edition- all Metallic Ink!

Available HERE NOW.

Change Into a Truck is by far the best-selling single print on the Nakatomi site. It was the first MAJOR viral hit we had shortly after launching the site back in January of 2009, and here we are, six years later, and doing better than ever. It’s the 2nd print that we ever did a new edition on (the first being the long-gone MurrayX6) and it helped define us as a company that focused on getting the art to the people that wanted it, and not keeping the popular medium of silkscreen printing to just an elite few. What started out as a deeply silly joke spread across the interwebs, and we still meet people to this day that tell us ‘This was my MySpace profile pic!” And then we laugh and act like we don’t know what MySpace is.

The art has been tweaked several times over the years, and has been printed as small as a 4×6 sticker up to a 24×36. It’s been on metal, it’s been on t-shirts, it’s even been a comic book cover. Way back in the day we were contacted by the ILM visual FX crew working on the Transformers live-action films, and they used the image on crew t-shirts.

Change into a Truck will NEVER DIE!

Official Batman 75th Anniversary Poster prints!

bat2

French Paper Art Club, in conjunction with Geek Art, are very excited to reveal their new series of officially licensed Batman prints, in honor of the cowled one’s 75th anniversary! Their debut print in the series is by artist Tim Doyle-

batman red

“Gotham Police Department” measures 16×36, and is a 5-color hand-printed silkscreen art print. The regular edition is signed and numbered by the artist in an edition of 120, and a blue/glow in the dark edition of only 55.

batman blue

From Doyle-

“Back in 1989, when I was the tender age of 12, still reeling from seeing Robocop back in ’87, my parents took me and my brother to see Batman, starring Micheal Keaton and Jack Nicholson. And as amazing as the movie really was- it was Anton Furst’s design for Gotham that REALLY spoke to me. The claustrophobic nightmare of steel and brick that he created for Tim Burton’s film set the stage for the action, and made that crazy world WORK. It’s my favorite depiction of Gotham, and trumps any other interpretation of that fictional city. (Yes, even more than the Nolan films.) So, when I was asked by French Paper Art Club to produce a print for them, I knew I would HAVE to pay tribute to Furst’s vision. The red skies are my subtle nod to the beautiful Batman: The Animated Series TV show that followed 2 years later. I’m very pleased with the print, and so happy to have been a part of the first silkscreen poster series to celebrate Batman’s 75th Year!”

Two New THE SEA ALSO RISES prints now Available!

THE SEA ALSO RISES- TURTLES AND SHARKS!

For the first time on Nakatomi , we have 2 BIG 24×36 prints in artist Tim Doyle’s ongoing ‘The Sea Also Rises’ series of prints, available HERE NOW.

Pictured above is ‘The Sea Also Rises: The Exodus of Turtleton’ which is signed and numbered in an edition of 200 worldwide.

And this print, the newest in the series is called ‘The Sea Also Rises: The Fleet Deploys’, which also measures 24×36 and is signed and numbered in a first edition of 150. Features eye-popping florescent ink throughout the print!

We asked Doyle to share his thoughts on these prints-

The Sea Also Rises series is by far the favorite thing I get to work on. It’s been rolling off and on for 5 years now, almost as long as I’ve had Nakatomi. The whole series comes from a place of deep concern for how humans interact with their environment, and the long-range consequences of our actions today. And for whatever reason, the way my brain works means that concern comes out as Sea Monsters will rising up to take us out, to prevent further damage. These two prints were originally commissioned by PangeaSeed for their ‘Sea of Change’ series, which helps to raise awareness about several issues pertaining to the oceans, most notably the practice of shark finning.

Exodus of Turtleton depicts a city- turtle, leaving it’s post off the coast of Japan, carrying an Earth-Spirit serenely away to safety. It’s definitely one of the more up-lifting images in the series, as nothing is blowing up or being attacked! I thought a lot about my children while creating this one, and how I could use a large turtle to carry them to safety one day. Or just carry them for a few hours, so I can catch a nap.

The Fleet Deploys shows a water-witch witnessing the Hammerhead God and his children moving from the depths to unknown points on the globe. I’m not sure where they’re going, but it can’t be good news. I was a little concerned about putting the sunken ship in there, as it’s the only man-made thing in an otherwise pristine scene, but having a recognizable object gave the rest of the scene some scale. Instead of it looking like a normal sized shark and a bunch of small ones, you REALLY can feel the size of the beast.”
